Interview with Mosunmola Omotayo (Arewa Ogun Beauty Pageant 2015 Winner)

Year in and out, a new beauty Queen emerges and Arewa Ogun, which is bi-annual can’t be left out on the list. Queen Mosunmola Omotayo, the reigning Queen of Arewa Ogun, who doubles as a baker, was crowned in 2015. In this interview with her, she talked about her experience as a beauty Queen and her ultimate aim in life.

What does it feel like to be a beauty queen and wear a crown?

I feel honored to be a beauty queen because it has afforded me the opportunity to stand, sit, eat and dine with dignitaries

How would you describe your journey since you were crowned the winner of Arewa Ogun?

The journey has been interesting and also it has been a learning platform for me.

What were the attractions of the crown?

The main attraction was the fame that came with it

What is your ultimate aim in life?

To be successful in all ramifications of life

Do you think beauty pageants help or hurt our societal views about women?

Beauty Pageant has done a lot of help to our women. Apart from promoting the ideal female beauty, it has also given women a platform to speak up, contributing their opinion to the national discussion.

Tell us about yourself and your educational background?

I am Omotayo Mosunmola, an indigene of Ikorodu Lagos State. I am a baker and an event planner. I attended both Primary and Secondary School in Ikorodu Lagos State. I have a Diploma in Industrial and Labour Relations, Bachelor of Science Degree holder (Political Science) from Olabisi Onabanjo University.

What do you think makes you stand out from the other girls that made you won?

My high level of confidence and smile got me the crown

What can you say about Arewa Ogun?

Arewa Ogun is a bi-annual beauty pageant, aimed at promoting the cultural heritage of Ogun state. It is one of the few pageants that keeps to its promises, and it has no element of bias in it. It’s a great platform for grooming not only Queens but Ladies.


If you’re opportune to contest for Arewa Ogun again, would you?

Yes, I would love to contest again, to enjoy the Dubai trip once again.

What’s your greatest achievement?

My greatest achievement is having a degree and serving my fatherland.

Where do you see yourself five years from now?

Over the next few years, I want to have gain experience in the baking world and also in event management

What’s your philosophy in life?

My philosophy in life is Que sera sera. What will be will be.

As a beauty Queen, how have you been handling all the fame and attention that you have been receiving?

No one is perfect in life. Being a beauty queen comes with lots of responsibilities, because I am a Queen there are some things I literally avoid. I try to dress with modesty, speak in public like a Queen that I am even when I am with families and friends. I wear my smile everywhere I go.
